Maharashtra Mumba Devi Mandir
The prominent Mumba Devi Mandir or temple is an ancient Hindu worship place which is dedicated to Devi Mumba who is considered as the mother Goddess. The meaning of Mumba is great mother or just mother. It is a known fact that Mumbai city got its name after the Devi Goddess Mumba. The ancient temple is considered among the oldest Hindu worship places in the state of Maharashtra. The main festival which is greatly celebrated at Mumba Devi Mandir is called Navaratri. Hence, during the festival of Navaratri, devotees or visitors from all over the neighboring states gather here to have Darshan and blessings of goddess Mumba. Remember, Goddess Mumba Devi is considered as the mother goddess of the city Mumbai.
History
The sacred Mumba Devi Mandir or temple was constructed around 6 centuries ago by an unknown dynasty. However, the first temple was built near the Bori Bunder. However, during 1739 to 1770, the temple was destroyed by enemies. However, having demolished the temple, a new temple was built near the Bhuleshwar area. Remember the original Mumba Devi temple was constructed at the area wherein the current Victoria terminus is located. According to legend, goddess Mumba is considered as the most powerful Goddess in the Hindu religion. Moreover, Goddess Mumba Devi is considered as the Kuldevi or personal deity of the city of Mumbai.
