Maharashtra Kukdeshwar Temple
The temple of Kukdeshwar is located in Pune District of Maharashtra, India some 15 km west of Junnar and lies on the banks of the Kukdi River. It was built to honor Lord Shiva.
Architecture
It is a 12th century temple built in the hemadpanti style of architecture with beautiful carvings on the outer wall. The river Kukdi flows near the temple on its northern side. The temple has a nearly 2 feet 3 inches high, black colored idol of Bhagawan Kukadeshwar Parshwanatha in a Padmasana posture.
History
The temple of Kukdeshwar is believed to be about 1050 years old. The original idol of the deity was ruined with the passage of time. It was a Brahmin who discovered Parshwanatha, the future Tirthankara as the harbinger of eternal happiness. The temple of Kukdeshwar has been recently renovated.
Best Time to visit
When you visit the temple on the tenth day of the bright half of the month of Bhadrapa, you will be able to enjoy a fair which is held here every year.
How to Reach
By Rail
You can reach the temple by train as the railway station nearest to the temple is the Neemach railway station which is some 45 kilometers away. The city of Mandasor is some 60 kilometers.
By Bus
You can even reach the temple in private cars and bus as the city has an excellent bus service as well as private vehicles to choose from.
