History
The history behind this temple is very interesting and the reasons behind the construction of this ancient temple was that once by mistake Lord Shiva killed a cow popularly known as ‘GOHATYA’ and it is believed that in Hinduism killing a cow is considered to be an unpardonable crime. Lord Shiva became very anxious to clean his sin. Nandi advised him to go to Nasik and take a bath in the Ramkund and as per Nandi’s instruction Lord Shiva went to nasik and took a bath in Ramkund and cleaned his sin. And it is believed that after he took a bath he did JAP and aaradhana at that place where the temple is now built and located.

The temple is an ancient and a very old temple built on the reasons behind the temple and it is huge temple with a shrine of Mahadev, Lord Shiva.
How To Reach
The temple is 1 kilometer from the central bus station of Nasik.
By Air
The nearest airport from Nasik is about 175 km away in Mumbai which is both domestic and international. Cabs can be hired from the airport to reach Nasik.
By Rail
Many trains connect Nasik to other cities. Panchvati express takes only five hours to travel from Mumbai to Nasik. Nasik has a well connected railway station on the central railway station. To reach the city centre there is an availability of buses, rickshaws and taxi’s.
By Road
It takes about 170 kilometers from the National highway 3 to reach Nasik from Mumbai as Nasik is well connected to Mumbai. Nasik is also connected to Pune and from the National Highway 50, it is at a distance of 210 kilometers from Pune to Nasik. There is also an availability of several private buses which commute from Pune and Thane to Nasik

The temple has an important shrine of Lord Shiva who is also known as Mahadev, there is an old and a very huge deity of Lord Shiva without the Nandi in the Kapileshwar temple.
Significance Of The Temple
Every temple of Lord Shiva has a Nandi usually who is the vehicle of the Mahadev but this temple has a unique feature that it does not have a Nandi as it is believed that because Nandi suggested Lord Shiva, the ways to clean his sin of killing a cow and so he considered Nandi as his Guru and therefore this temple has no Nandi which makes it unique and worth to visit temple in Nasik.

Although there are many attractions near the temple but one of the attraction inside the temple is Ramkund where Lord Shiva took bath after making a sin of killing a cow and it is believed that for every individual it is recommended to take a bath once there in Ramkund to evade from his sins.
Weather And Time To Visit The Temple
The most appropriate and best time to visit the Kapaleshwar temple is in the months from October to March due to tropical wet and dry climate of Nasik, these months suits the best time to visit the temple.
Timings And Other Important Information
The temple is open daily for the darshan. There is a special prayer of Lord Shiva on Saturday night at 10 p.m and it is a must see prayer and the devotees must attend this prayer to gain the blessings of the Lord. There is another prayer on Monday at 8:15 p.m sharp. There is also a pooja being held on every Monday at Pradosh 6:30 p.m at Ramkunda Ganga Ghat. Many people also arrange the Shri Satyanarayan pooja at the kapaleshwar temple during the month of Shravana.
