Maharashtra Chakreshwar Mahadev Mandir
Maharashta has been a blessed land forever.Be it the great warriors it has given birth to or be it the natural beauty it beholds, Maharashtra has always managed to hold on to its own place. Likewise, Maharashtra has also been blessed by several holy shrines and temples. One of such temple lies at NalaSopara. A little distance away from the hustle bustle of the city of Mumbai lays the Chakreshwar Mahadev temple of NalaSopara.
People aren’t very sure of the time or era when the shrine was built, but most of them agree on the fact that the Chakreshwar Mahadev Mandir is an extremely ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is not a huge one and stands on a small piece of land but it is far and wide well-known as the holy place where Swami Samarth performed his dhyan and pratishtha of a Ram Mandir( temple dedicated to Lord Rama ) close by and subsequently he blessed a Shishya who went on to take a ‘SajivSamadh’ at this very place.
History.
Sopara is one of the most historically rich cities of Maharashtra.Situated closely to Mumbai and being the coastal place it is, Sopara was an extremely well-to-do port at the western coastline of the country since the beginning of the first millennium B.C. It continued to be so till as late as 15th century A.D approximately. Several historians have also disregarded this theory but several have accepted it as a fact about Sopara. Since 1882 AD and after the interest of the British government and their archeological curiosity, the place has been constantly scanned by archaeologists to bring to surface rich findings spread over an area.
The northwest part of Sopara holds another element of its natural beauty called the Chakreshwar lake. The lake and The Chakreshwar Mahadev Temple are distinguished vestiges of a Hindu temple and memorial stones. Historians have still not been able to decipher the exact era of the commissioning or formation of the temple. Something noticeable about the history of the otherwise humble temple is the fact that the temple was once burgled upon, The burglars took a step further and dumped several idols and antiques into the nearly Chakreshwar Lake . The relics of the temple were later recovered from the lake and were established at their rightful place.
