Maharashtra Amba Devi Amravati
According to the Hindu mythology, Goddess Amba Devi is one of the forms of Adi-Shakti or fundamental source of energy. According to legend, Brother of Rukmini wanted to marry off his sister to Shisupal but she loved lord Krishna. Hence, queen Rukmini reached at this temple and prayed to Amba Devi. Krishna abducted her and married her. However, after that incidents lord Krishna had to fight Rukmiya, the brother of queen Rukmini. Krishna defeated him and Bhishmak, the king arranged their marriage.
History
However, there is no proper evidence regarding the construction date of the temple yet it is said that it was built centuries ago. According to the Hindu mythology, the place wherein present Amba Devi temple existed, a small temple found. When queen Rukmini’s brother greedy Rukmiya wanted to marry her off with his friend king Shishupal then she went to this temple and prayed Maa Amba Devi to save her life. After getting a message from Rukmini’s friend, lord Krishna decided to marry her and ran away with her. So after this incident Lord Krishna had to fight with Rukmiya. Bhagwana Krishna defeated Rukmiya and married Rukmini. Bhishmak, the king arranged their marriage.
Moreover, the temple is known for its various festivals especially Navaratri. During the Navaratri, devotees from all over the state gather here to have Darshan and blessings of goddess Amba Devi. It is said, Amba Devi, the goddess always ready to help her true devotees. The sacred sculptures in the temple tell the sacred story of Lord Krishna and his consort Rukmini. Here, in the temple one can see various sacred sculptures and inscriptions that explain the sacred stories related to Lord Krishna and Maa Amba Devi.
How to Reach
By Air
The nearest airport is situated at Nagpur that connects city to all other major cities or towns of the country. Hence, from the airport visitors or devotees can hire local transportation like buses, taxis and cabs to reach at Amba Devi temple.
By Rail
Amravati railway station is the nearest railway station which is situated only 2 km far from the railway station.
By Road
Regular taxis, buses and cabs connect the town with other neighbouring parts of the state.
Weather and Time to visit
The city of Amravati has tropical climate conditions. It means, during summers the temperature rises to 40 degree Celsius while in winters it dropping down to 10 degree Celsius. However, monsoons offer good rainfalls. So the best time to visit at Amba Devi temple is from the months of October to March. However followers of Amba Devi can also visit here during the festival of Navaratri.
