Kerala Shri Shankara Narayana Temple
The Shri Shankara Narayana Temple is located on the banks of the wonderful Varahi River. It is situated 35Km from the Shankara Narayana village in the mountain ranges. The village got its name from the temple itself.
History
It is considered as one of that divine place that was being created by Maharshi Parashurama. According to the mythological stories of the Purana, Subramanya, Udupi, Kumbhakashi, Koteshwara, Shankara Narayana, Kollur and Gokarna form the Saptakshetra which was being compared with one of the Ram Kshetra.
Significance
It is one of those rare places where one can witness the confluence of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The seven divine places together form the Parashurama Kshetra. The places include Subramanya, Udupi, Kumbhakaashi, Koteshwara, Shankaranarayana, Kolluru and Gokarna.
Best Time to Visit
The place is about 35 Km away from Udupi. The National Highway connects Bangalore and Mangalore as well as Udupi. Therefore availing a private vehicle is a good option. If you are coming from Bombay, then National Highway (NH) 17 will lead to Udupi. It is a good time to come here during the Shankaranarayana Jaatra, which is being celebrated for two days from the day of Sankranti. The date generally turns out be the 16th of January every year.
