The specialties and uniqueness of the temple is that the idol of both Lord Shiva and Goddess Paravati are found together in the same temple in this place. Whereas, mostly in the Hindu temples both the idols are placed separately.
History
The history of this temple is based on the known Mahabharatha epic, in which Arjuna, the Pandavas is related to the emergence of the joint idol of Lord Shiva and Goddess Paravati. Arjuna was very brave and excellent archer, which made his ego bigger than anything else. Therefore, to teach the lessons of humbleness to Arjuna, Lord Shiva and Goddess Paravati masked themselves as "Kiratha" and "Kirathi. They became hunters who lived in the forest and challenged Arjuna to fight with Kiratha. But, Arjuna faced disappointment by failing to defeat Lord Shiva in form of Kiratha. Arjuna realized in the second moment that the hunter is no other person but itself Lord Shiva along with his wife Parvati. He at the same moment felt guilty of his ego and prayed to Lord Shiva for forgiving him. Therefore, the joint idol, symbolizes the position of blessing placed in the temple.
Since then, the joint idol of Lord Shiva and Goddess Paravati was found in that place. But the actual emergence and the foundation of the temple is still not mentioned anywhere in the history of the temple. The temple was formed by the villagers living nearby and now it has been made into a beautiful temple for the devotees to worship. In the temple of Lord Siva and Paravati, the other small temples of Lord Ganesha and Lord Sastha are also made.
Rituals
The daily poojas are performed in the temple by the devotees by offering flowers and coconut to the idols. The main poojas made in the temple are named as "Swayamvara Pushpanjali" which organized every consecutive Monday of the month. The important rituals made in the temple are "Aranaazhipayasam", "Niramala" and "Pushpanjali". Devotees also offer coconut in front of the idol of Lord Ganesha, "Neerajanam" for Lord Sastha, "Palpayasam" for Rakshas, and "Thalichukoda" and "Ayilyapooja" for Sarpam.
