Kerala Karthayayani Devi Temple
The famous Karthayayani Devi temple is located in Chertala town in Kerala. Goddess Karthayayani is being worshipped in this temple. Right outside the main temple, there are separate temples of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. There are other temples dedicated to other lords, as well.
History
There is a particular history associated with this temple. Vilwamangalam Sawmiyar reached the town. He noticed swans in the nearby lake and also a divine lady was swimming in that lake. She was Goddess Karthayayani. For next few consecutive days he continued to see her. On the 7th day, Sawmiyar managed to hold her hair. Thus, only the head of the idol of the Goddess is visible presently in the temple.

By Air
The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport and the town is located 56km away from the airport.
By Rail
The nearest railway station is Shertalai railway station, which is only about 1 km from the town. Other stations are Vayalar station and Ernakulam junction located at 5kms and 32 kms away respectively.
By Road
The town is passed by the National Highway 47, and is thus well connected to different cities of Kerala. Thus, the road network is also very good.
Event Associated with Temple
Pooram festival is held in the month of May-June when the devotees playfully disrespect the Goddess. Apart from that, Arattu festival is also celebrated for eight days.
