Kerala Amaramkavu Devi Temple
Idukki district of Kerala state is famous for its sacred Hindu temples and Amaramkavu Devi temple is among one of them. This sacred Hindu worship place is considered among the mysterious Shakti Shrines in the state. The major attraction of the temple is a divine idol of goddess Durga which is believed to be self originated.
History
According to local legend, once, a boy was going to his home; he suddenly discovered an idol of goddess Durga. However, he could not notice in seriously and same night he dreamt about Goddess Durga who told him to build a Devi temple. When the next day boy woke up, he informed villagers about the incident then all the villagers rushed to that place and found a divine idol of Goddess Durga. Hence, all the villagers decided to build a magnificent Devi temple at the same place where Idol originated. Thus, the idol of the temple is called Swayambhu or self originated. According to another popular legend, a sage named Vasuki swamy visited the area wherein present Devi temple situated. He performed his penance at this place and found ultimate salvation from Goddess Durga. Finally, the sage decided to construct an important Devi temple.
Architecture
Amaramkavu Devi temple is not only famous for its miracles but also for its incredible architecture. The walls of the temple have been scripted with religious texts that show the mythological stories related to Goddess Durga. Here, in the main hall of the temple, devotees can also see an important sculpture that shows the temple as a mysterious Shakti Shrines. Moreover, the exterior of the temple structure have been designed in traditional Indian style. The idol of Goddess Durga has been installed on a solid rock just in the centre of the temple.
How to reach
By Bus or Road
KSRTC runs regular buses throughout the state. However, visitors or pilgrims can also hire private bus, taxis and car to reach at the temple.
By Rail
Some of the nearest railway stations are Kuruppan Tara railway station only 31 km, Kaduturutti railway station 32 km and Piravam Road railway station also 32 km distance from the temple.
By Air
Kochi airport is the nearest airport.
