The temple shape of the Halebid temple is that of the star that has the idols of various deities housed in its vicinity. The statuaries housed in the temple have beautifully and rich ornate and are very attractive and striking thus attracting many devotees to the temple. The earlier name of the area where temple is located is known as DwaraSamudra and has been the rich capital of Hoysalas. The temple is situated on a chest like podium is considered of having the most outrageous sculptures that have been carved out from different stones. The exterior of the temple houses the Nandi the Bull on which Lord Shiva used to sit and travel all around and the temple mounds on the hill and a passage that leads to the inner area of the temple. The interior walls of the temple have the engravings of various Goddesses, Gods, dancing girls, different animals and birds.
The entrance to the temple is free for the devotees who come to worship the temple. The timings to come and worship the temple are from morning 7 AM to evening 7:30 PM.
The two temples that are part of the Halebid complex are Hoysaleshwara and Shanthaleswara that can be visited from the four different entrances.
The temple complex has a big lake just in front of its complex that is named as Dhwara Samudra that stands for “entrance from the ocean”.
Halebid is well connected by all means of transport via road, rail and air to Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore.
