A temple of Hindus dedicated to Swaminarayana is named as Shri Swaminarayan Temple and is located in Junagadh in Gujarat. Swaminarayan himself built the temple.
History
Mt. Girnar surrounds the city of Junaghad, the city that houses the Swaminarayana temple. This temple is located in the center of the city and the circumference of the temple is 278 feet. King Hemantsinh presented the land to build the temple and hence his memories are still preserved in the temple. Gunatitanand Swami laid the foundation stone of the temple. Gopalanand Swami and few other senior paramhansas were also present while the foundation stone was laid. It was laid on 10th May 1826 A.D. Swami Brahmanand took care of the construction of the temple. The structure of the temple consists of five vaults and effigies.
The occasion of pranapratishta also known as the putting up of deities in the temple took two days. The statues of ShriGopalanand Swami was installed by Swaminarayan on 1st May 1828 A.D and these were installed in the inner shrine of the temple. The eastern side of the temple has statues of RadharamanDev and HarikrishnaMaharaj while on the western end the statues of SiddheswarMahadev, Parvati, Ganesha and Nandishwar have been put up. The first priest of the temple was Swami Gunatitanand and he remained the mahant for total 40 years.
