An initiation by a devotee Mathurbhai and his wife to build a temple in their village became the basis for construction of Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at Atladra. The devotee wished to have a Mandir in the village but was unable to build it due to so many problems. Finally, he approached Shastriji Maharaj, who was a powerful spiritual personality of the area, and requested him to construct a temple.
Hearing about the difficulties that the devotee was facing in constructing the mandir, Shastriji Maharaj asked him to build the Mandir on a land in Atladra. He told Mathurbhai that Lord Swaminarayan had sacrificed the land and hence there will not be any problems in construction of the temple on it. On knowing this, he purchased the land immediately and requested Shastriji Maharaj to start building the Mandir.
On commencement of the work, many saints started contributing towards building the Mandir. Pramukh Swami Maharaj also actively participated in construction work. The temple came up on the land very soon.
