Chhattisgarh Danteshwari Temple
According to the Hindu mythology, the temple is one of the important Shakti Peethas or source of feminine spiritual energy in the country. It is said, the place wherein this sacred temple is situated, the tooth or Daanth of sacred Sati fell down thus it is called Dantewada. Moreover, due to its religious importance, devotees all over the country visit at Danteshwari temple in order to have blessings from Maa Danteshwari.
History
This sacred temple was constructed during 14th century by famous Chalukyas dynasty of south India. Dantewada town is located only 80 km far from Tehsil Jagdalpur Chhattisgarh. The town of Dantewada got its name from Maa Danteshwari. Danteshwari used to be a deity of Kakatiya rulers. According to history, Danteshwari was the family goddess or Kuldevi of state Bastar. Dusshera festival is the main festival of the place as during this festival, devotees all around the neighbouring areas or cities gather here to pay their homage to Maa Danteshwari. At the time of Dussehra festival, the idol of Danteshwari is taken out of the temple in a great procession. There is one more important tradition of sacred glittering Jyoti Kalashas at festival of Navaratri.
Architecture
It is built in typical Indian kind of architecture. The sacred idol Maa Danteshwari is formed out of black-color stone. .however, the temple mainly divided into major four sections including Maha Mandap, Garbh Griha, Sabha Mandap and Mukhya Mandap. The great Shikharas of the temple are adorned with religious sculptures.
How to Reach
By Air
It is very easy to find a direct flight from nearby airports to Chattishgarh. However, some of the nearest airports are Rajahmundry airport only 229 km, Vishakhapatnam airport around 265 km and Raipur airport about 288 km distance form Dandewada area.
By Rail or Train
If visitors or devotees want to use rail-transportation to reach at the temple then they can use anyone of the nearest railway stations in the state such as Dantewada railway station only 1 km, Kawargaon railway station around 8 km and Gidam railway station also 8 km distance from Danteshwari temple.
By Road
Visitors or pilgrims can easily find government as well as private owned buses, vehicles and cabs across the Dantewada and neighbouring towns and cities.
Weather and Time to Visit
The climate of the area is like all other parts of the Chhattisgarh state means it remains hot during summers and cold during winters. However, the best time to visit at Danteshwari temple is from October to March.
