Bihar The Kurkihar Temple
This tiny village is situated only 22 kilometres distance from Gaya town and close to Wazirganj village. Kurkihar village lies on a mound’s top that had been earlier considered as Buddhist Monastery. Moreover, these ancient artefacts also included a great range of Buddhist sculptures and idol such as Bodhisattvas, Buddhas, Bells and various ritual objects. However, presently those artefacts are kept in museum of Patna. Some of the important Buddhist sculptures are also kept in Indian Museum of Kolkata city.
History
This small but world-famous village lies on the top of a mound. This mound was previously considered as a great Buddhist Monastery. However, during the 1930, this small village came into lime-light due to the discovery of various important Buddhist sculptures and idols such as Bodhisattvas, Bells, Buddhas and various religious objects.
However, the village is not only famous for its Buddhist sculptures or monastery but there is also two important Hindu temples. One of them is known as Kurkihar temple. The Kurkihar temple also has important Buddhist sculptures. According to local inhabitants, the kurkihar temple used to be a Buddhist worship place but after sometime it had been changed into a Hindu temple. But the important Buddhist sculptures can be still found in the temple. By visiting in its small Garbhagriha devotees can also see various important ancient Buddhist sculptures that have been kept here for many centuries.

By Air
However, Gaya city has an airdrome that also connects to various towns such as Varanasi. However, the airport on global front connects to international destinations such as Bangkok and Yangon. Hence, visitors can get direct flight to city from various domestic airports in the country.
By Rail or Train
Gaya railway station is the nearest railway station that served by various trains such as ones from Kolkata, Delhi, Puri, Varanasi and Patna.
By Road
Gaya city is well linked not only with all the cities or towns of the Bihar but also with the cities or towns of the other states. However, some of important places from wherein you may easily reach Gaya town by road are including Patna, Rajgir, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Deogarh, Dhanbad, Kolkata and Tatanagar.
Weather and Time to visit
Bihar state presents a great variation between the winters and summers climates.
- Winters start from December and end in February and during the period the temperature of the area can drop down to 7 degree Celsius.
- Summers starts from March and end in June and during the period temperature reaches up to 40 degree Celsius.
- Monsoons start from July and end in September. The period usually accompanied with good rains.
Hence, the best time to visit Kurkihar temple is from October to March. However, visitors can also visit the temple during the various Hindu as well as Buddhist festivals.
