Assam Lankeshwar Temple
According to legend, Lankeshwar is considered as one of forms of Bhagwana Shiva. It is considered as one of the most holy temple among the Lord Shiva’s followers. This is the main reason, individuals all around the world visit this temple have Darshan and blessings of Bhagwana Shiva.
History
This temple is not only famous among the Hindu devotes but also among the usual visitors of Assam. According to Hindu mythology, Ravana, the king of Lanka (now Shrilanka) worshiped the Bhagwana Shiva at this place that’s why it is known as Lankeshwar. The temple has various religious sculptures that show its religious significances. Here, pilgrims can see marble-made stairs that lead to this sacred temple. These 452 steps help pilgrims to reach the temple.
On the eve of Maha Shivratri, a religious festival devoted to Lord Shiva, devotees come here to have sacred Darshan and blessings of divine power. Since the temple is located at easily accessible area, the pilgrims can easily visit here. The temple was constructed by the then king of Guwahati city many centuries ago. According to Hindu mythology, this temple is one of the most respectable as well as sacred Shiva temples in the country. It is said that once a person visit this temple, his all sins would be removed.

Weather and Time to Visit
The climate of Guwahati city ranges from 16 degree Celsius to 27 degree Celsius in winter and from 28 degree Celsius to 40 degree Celsius in summer. However, the temperature can be changeable as per climate. The best visiting time for Lankeshwar temple is during Mahashivratri, the Shiva festival. However, devotees or visitors can visit here throughout the year. It is recommended to visit in the months of October to March.
