Kumararama Temple which is also known as the Sri Chalaukya Kumararama Sri Bhimeswaraswamy Vari temple is a beautiful temple which is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras which are sacred to the Hindu god Shiva. The temple is situated on Samarlakota in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. According to the legend made available, the Sivalanga of this temple was placed, installed and established by Lord Kumaraswamy. The main festivals of this temple are Maha Shivratri, Sarannavarathri and Karthika Masam. Built in Dravidian architecture, this is a beautiful temple and is one of the five Araamaa shrines of the Lord Shiva. Daily abhisheka are carried out in the months of November and December. Another popular festival of this temple is Kalyana Mahotsav and Utsavam. Also during the celebrations of Shivratri entire temple is decorated in the form of a throne.
History
Built by King Bhima of the Chalaukya period, Sri Chalaukya Kumararama Sri Bhimeswaraswamy Vari temple has a 14 ft high white Linga which makes it different and unique from the other Lingas present in the temple. This temple is built in Dravidian style architecture and the building of this temple was started in 892 AD and completed in 922 AD. Also during 1340 to 1466, this place was under the rule of Kakatiya rulers. They renovated this temple.
Lord Shiva is known as Kumara Bhimeswara Swamy here and his consort is the Goddess Bala Tripurasundari. After hearing the plead of all the devas, Lord Shiva decided of killing the asuras with his spiritual arrow of flame called Pasupatarastram and due to this all their kingdoms were reduced in the form of ashes. This is known as Tripura taka and a huge stone Linga which was worshipped by Tripuras cut into five different Lingas which is known as Pancharama. One of these Lingas was installed in this temple by Lord Kumaraswamy who is the second son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati Devi. Due to this the temple got its name as Kumararama.
Architecture
The Kumararama temple is built in Dravidian architecture. This temple has a beautiful main entrance which is known as Surya Dwaram. There is a beautiful idol of Eka Shali Nandi which is installed opposite to the Shiva lingam inside the temple. This temple also has a beautiful statue of Tripura Sundari and Shri Bala Thripura.

By Rail
There is a broad gauge railway line of the South and Central Railway which has a lot of trains running. This broad gauge is known as Vijayawada – Howrah broad way.
By Air
Also this temple can be reached by air as the nearest airport is located at Rajahmundry.
By Road
Situated only 40 Km from Annavaram, 49 Km from Rajahmundry and 125 Km from Vishakhapatnam, one can also reach this temple via road.
By Local Transport
The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has a depot at Kakinada which also offers the visit to 5 Pancharamas i.e. Bhimavaram, Amravati, Palakollu, Draksharama and Samarlakota. This journey is held every Sunday from 8 am to 8pm.
Important Shrines
This is a beautiful temple which has various shrines installed in it. A beautiful Eka Shali Nandi is placed opposite to the main statue of Shiva Lingam in the temple. It also has beautiful statue of Tripura Sundari and Shri Bala Thripura Sundari. Other shrines of deities are Lord Kala Bhairav, Lord Bheemashwara and Goddess Bala Tripura.
Significance
The attraction of this beautiful temple is the highest 14 ft white Linga which is different from all the other Lingas.

Morning: 6am to 12pm
Evening: 4pm to 8pm
Daily Abhisheka are held during the months of November and December. Till Maha Shivratri grand celebrations are held. Car festival is also held during these days.
