Perambalur district is one of the districts located in Tamil Nadu state in southern India. The district headquarters is the Perambalur city. It was ordered by the Government of India in the year 29-12-2000 that Perambalur and Ariyalur district to be divided into two districts.

According to the history of Perambalur, it was a part of Tiruchirappalli district. There was a long struggle between Tippu Sultan and Hyder Ali with the British people; finally after the death of Tippu Sultan, British took over the control of civil, military and Administration. As a result the district Tiruchirappalli was under the rule British. This district was divided into 2 parts such as, Perambalur and karur districts.

Perambalur district is surrounded by the Ariyalur district on to the east, Tiruchirappalli district on to the south, on the north by Cuddalore and Salem districts and to the west by Salem and Tiruchirappalli districts. The districts total area is of 3691sqkm and is located between the latitude of 10.54’ and 11.30’ degree and 78.40’ and 79.30’ degree of longitude.
