Karur district is located in the southern part along with the rivers of Kaveri and Amaravati in the state of Tamil Nadu. Karur was one of the ancient cities in Tamil Nadu. Earlier it was under the hands of Cholas, Cheras, the Naickers and the British. It was said in Hindu Mythology that the Karur is a sacred place for cow where the Lord Brahma began to create human here first.

Karur is situated at the southwest of Chennai city also known as Madras. It is located at the latitude of 11.00° North to 12.00° North and at the longitude of 77.28° East to 77.50° East at an altitude of 122meters (400 feet). The district covers an area of 2,895.75sqkm.

Karur district climatic condition during summer season is the temperature increases maximum up to 37.1° C. in the winter season the temperature can decrease to 19.1°C. According to the measured rainfall from North East Monsoon is 341.8mm and from South West Monsoon is 209.5mm.
