Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium is a well known, world class field hockey stadium that is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Named after the renowned M. Radhakrishnan Pillai, this stadium acted as a venue to Men’s Champions Trophy in the year 1996, while also hosted the tournament once again in December 2005. This stadium also acted as venue in the year 2007 during the Asian Hockey Championship. In this match, India conquered the series by 7-2 against South Korea.
This stadium is also a venue for different division matches hosted by the Chennai Hockey Association while serves as a home ground to the World Series Hockey Team Chennai Cheetahs. Established in the year 1995, Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium was built for the South Asian Federation Games, where India won the match against Pakistan by 5-2.
History
With no special records about the history of Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, it is said that by far this stadium has hosted many Championship tournaments and world series Hockey matches. Also it was established with the sole purpose to host the Asian Federation Games in the 1995, where India conquered the series against Pakistan in 1995. Apart from this, Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium has hosted Men’s Championship Trophy in the year 1996, and December 2005, while also acted as a venue for the Asian Hockey Championship.
This stadium is considered as one of the best stadiums for Hockey matches. This stadium was upgraded and redesigned by the Sports Authority of Tamil Nadu with an aim to prepare it for hosting the Championship Trophy in December.

Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium is located on 38, Gandhi Irwin Road, Egmore, Chennai, which is in close proximity to the hotels and main attractions of the city. It is located in the heart of the city and is close to Kenneth Lane, Nest International, Sulekha.com New Media Private Limited and Mothi baba Dargah and Jumma Masjid. One can reach the stadium following any route using different modes of transportation like private cab, public buses, auto, auto rickshaws etc.

This stadium acts as a venue for different hockey matches while has hosted Championship Trophy also. The ground of this stadium is undergoing renovation. It has spacious seating facility while ample leg room in different stands.

Renovation
Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium is presently undergoing some renovation. As per a government order this stadium will now have floodlights which shall give a world class look to the entire stadium. Some exceptional facilities might be added to the stadium like room for players, VIP lounge, Conference room, medical and officials’ room and Physiotherapy room. This stadium is considered as an International Federation owing to its state of the art infrastructure. In the year 2004, this stadium was renovated again by the Sports Authority of Tamil Nadu so that it could host the Championship Trophy in the year 2005. Soon after the renovation, this stadium became one of the notable stadiums that featured re-laid synthetic hockey surface together with flood lights which matched the international standards.
