Kattupalli Port
The Kattupalli port has been built by L&T Shipbuilding Ltd in the Kattupalli village close to Ennore in Chennai. It is the largest shipyard and is a Shipyard also functioning as Captive Port Complex. The port is is a joint effort of TIDCO and L&T.
This is the cargo station that is adjacent to the large number of in Chennai. It is being built by L&T that is a big corporate sector-backed private organization.
The construction of the port is in contend with that of the Japanese and Korean dockyards that have "specialized ships," like the submarines and vessels that can be used in warships along with the giant sized warships.This port stands is used as the international shipyardafter Colombo and Singapore in the part of ship repairing.
The expectation of the completion of this shipyard is to be completed by 2012 in January.
Construction
The progress of the shipyard in the first phase includes the development of 1.2 million TEU capacities which will have 350-metre-long L-shaped quays and the terminal area will be 20 hectares. This phase is expected to be completed and considered to be operational around January 2012. In the coming 28 years the International Container Terminal Services Incin Philippines has been authorized to look for the quay.The capacity of the quay is expected to increase to 1.8 million TEU during the second phase.
The equipment’s that will be used are of modern technology that includesreach stackers and an empty handler.
For the service package the yard has an option of 5000 ground slots. The terminal will be accessible from the nautical side through a channel that is about 3 km and has a port basin that offers a draft that is 14m long. This projection of the draft is such that it will increase the container trade in the southern Asian region. The shipyard also has the possibility for stopping in the southern India for the Asia-Europe vessels and has been proposed as a diverse option by the analysts. The north and the south breakwaters of the Kattupalli’s are jointly 3.5 km long and thus provide uninterrupted terminal services.
The Kattupalli shipyard consists of 3 rail-vaulted dockside cranes, 15 rubber-fagframeworkhoists, two sheaves and joint plug points that are 420 in number. A heavy lift vessel, Zhen Hua 20 was installed in the shipyard in 2012 on date 12th April and still more RMQCs in three numbers has to beerected at another dock.
Facilities
The basic purpose that the Kattupallidockyard serves is for buildingcorvette and to boost the present aptitude ofHazirathat is in Gujarat for building the sub-marines. For the large defence ships this yard is suitable as it is around 14 meter and a harbor of 2 km long.
The Assimilated shipyard will have the below mentioned amenities:-
- Large cargo carriers for building large commercial ships, for the transportation of liquid/gas and bowls it has specified cargo ships.
- The submarines are built here for the defense.
- The variable storage area that will also be used for production facility for oil and gas sector.
- Enhancement and improvement of commercial and defence ships
- Parts those are required in the building of ship.
L&T has planned to build offshore platforms at the yard that has 1250 acres of land. It has also planning for the minor port that has the capability of handling the container ships. Installation of shipliftment of a 18000 tonneis being built on the yard..
The cost that has been required for the first is around INR 40,000 million and will be operational in January 2012.
