In the extreme north of Rajasthan state of India Hanumangarh district is located. The district is surrounded by Punjab state is situated on the north, on the east by Haryana State, on the south by Churu District of Rajasthan and Ganganagar district of Rajasthan on to the west.

On12july, 1994 Hanumangarh district was separated from Sri Ganganagar district tehsils and made as a district. The total area of the district is 12,645km and it is the 31st district of Rajasthan.

The Climatic conditions of Hanumangarh district are extreme in terms of summer season its temperature is scorching. There is a freezing cold during winters and has an average rainfall of 225-300mm per year.

Hanumangarh district area is 5000 years old that means it was a part of Indus Valley Civilization. Archeologists found the Skeleton, unknown scripts, stamps, coins, jewellery, toys and other remaining were found at Kalibanga (Pilibanga) in the year 1951. There were several other places founded to be the evidence of old civilization. The remains are kept safe at Museum at Kalibanga and National museum at Delhi.

BHATNER is today known as Hanumangarh district, which was conquered by the emperor Soorat Singh of Bikaner after defeating Bhatis. The victory day was Tuesday in the year 1805 and according to Indian mythology, Tuesday is considered as auspicious day in the name of God Hanuman. Thus, the emperor named the district from BHATNER to Hanumangarh.
