Jaipur Metro
As part of the Rapid transport system development in the Cities of the Country, Jaipur Metro was initiated at Jaipur, Rajasthan and the construction of its first phase of its first line covering 9.2 km from Manasarovar to Chandpole Basaar started on November 13, 1980.
History
The idea of Jaipur Metro came to the Government after seeing the phenomenal success of the Delhi Metro and Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation Limited was constituted on 1st January 2010. This body started the project with the help of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which did the feasibility study of the project and also prepared Detailed Project Report (DPR) and appointed Mott MacDonald to handle the tendering of this 100 Billion rupee project of laying the first two lines covering 35 km distance.
In the first phase, two lines that are taken up are termed Green Lane and Orange Lane.
The Green Lane is the stretch between Mansarovar and Badi Chaupar via Civil Lines and Chandpole, the construction of which has already commenced and expected to be over by January, 2013.
The other line, namely Orange Line between Sitapura Industrial Area and Ambabari, in the North-South Corridor, would pass through Ajmeri Gate and MI Road, tracks on elevation up to Ajemeri Gate and then afterwards underground.
Project Status
Although the project is running late by two months, officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the nodal agency for the project, are confident that the project will be completed by 2013 and they have already issued directions to go ahead with recruitment of operating personnel. The DMRC is equipped already to train the Station Managers, Engine Drivers, Ticket Inspectors and other skilled personnel to take up positions once the project is completed and the operations start functioning.
Jaipur metro is going to be one of the country’s best rapid transit systems.
