Hyderabad Metro
The AP Government has taken up the mass rapid transit system of the Hyderabad Metro to improve the communication in the City of Hyderabad. The Project’s Phase I has 3 lines covering a distance of 71 km and it will be operational in 2015 in respect of a 12 km stretch between Miyapur and Khairatabad would have been completed.
Project History and Status
This project covering 71 km length in the first phase was approved by the Union Government in April 2008 as a Public-Private Partnership programme and the Government had taken some risks while taking up this project as described in the following URL: http://toolkit.pppinindia.com/urban-transport/module3-rocs-hm8.php?links=hm8.
Current Status
In July 2010 there was a rebidding for the project costing Rs 12132 and Larsen and Toubro (L & T) was the lowest bidder. The above company began the work with a viability gap funding of about Rs 1458 crores, against a sanctionof Rs 4853 crores by the Government and the ground work to start from January 2011, which is to be completed in five years time.
The soil testing work related to all the corridors of the project having been completed by August 2011, the project contractors, namely L & T, had started pillar erection work in Corridor No.3 covering the section between Nagole and Uppal.
Corridors
The three corridors are defined as Red, Blue and Green lines.
The Red Line metro will be between Miyapur and L B Nagar, the route length determined as 29.87 kilometers.
There will be 27 Stations in Hyderabad Metro and all of them will be in elevated position.
The link to other Corridors will be in the following fashion
- Connection will be provided at Ameerpet for corridors 1 and 3
- Corridors 1 and 2 will be connected at Mahatma Gandhi bus Station.
The Blue Line metro will be between Nagole and Shilparamam, with a route length of 26.51 kilometers.
The number of stations in the Blue line will be 23, all elevated position.
Link to other Corridors in the Blue line will be as follows:
- Connection will be provided at Ameerpet for 3 and 1
- For 3 and 2, the connection will be at Parade Grounds.
The Green Line metro will be between JBS and Falaknuma, with a route length of 14.78 kilometers.
The number of stations in the Green line will be 16, all elevated position.
Link to other Corridors in the Green line will be as follows:
- Connection will be provided at Parade Grounds for 2 and 3
- For 1 and 2, the connection will be at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station.
