Introduction
Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) is a powerful political part in one of the Indian states, Tamil Nadu. From the years 1999 to 2003, this party was an integral member of NDA, but in the year 2004 it became a member of UPA. This party was started by Dr. S. Ramdoss.
Quite some time back, this party proclaimed that it will contest the upcoming elections by forming an alliance with left UPA and ADMK led front on March 26th 2009.
In the year of 2009 general elections, this party contested seven seats from the state of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Consequently, it could not win a single seat.
History
The foundation of Pattali Makkal Katchi party was laid by Dr. S. Ramdoss and the president of this party is G.K. Mani. Earlier, Ramdoss worked with Vanniyar Union, which was founded by him in the year of 1980. This party is consists of an OBC community and Vannsiar caste. It has encouraged the division of Tamil Nadu, a proposal which was perceived as a casteist line. This party was primarily based in the northern half of Tamil Nadu. Before the year 2004 election, this party joined Tamil political front democratic progressive alliance where Indian Muslim league, CPI (M), CPI, Congress and DMK are members.
After the formation of Pattali Makkal Katchi party under the tactful leadership of Ramadoss, this party obtained a major share of power in the central government and regional government in Tamil Nadu because of pressure of coalition government. S.Ramadoss’son Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss is presently the health minister in the Indian government. Later, following the 2004 general Lok Sabha election this party joined United Progressive Alliance party.
Pattali Makkal Katchi party was pushed aside from DMK-led Tamil Nadu government in June 2008. On March 26, 2009, this party proclaimed that it would form alliance with left UPA and AIADMK front. Following this, the two ministers, Mr. R. Velu and
Mr. A. Ramadoss belonging to union cabinet, resigned from the government of UPA. They also submitted their resignation letters to the Dr. Manmohan Singh, the prime minister, on March 28th 2009.

S. Ramadoss
Mr. S. Ramadoss is the president as well as founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi party. Earlier, Ramadoss worked profusely with Vanniyar Union.
After the formation of Pattali Makkal Katchi party under the deft administration of Ramadoss, this party gained a great share of power both in the central government and regional government due to pressure of coalition. Mr. Anbumani Ramadoss, son of Ramadoss, worked as health minister in the Indian government.
Anbumani Ramadoss
Dr. Anbumani Ramdoss worked as the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India from May 2004 until he resigned from his post in April 2009. Now, he is an MP from the Rajya Sabha. He hails from Pattali Makkal Katchi. His date of birth is October 9th 1968 and his place of birth is Pondicherry. He is alumnus of Madras Medical College and is a conspicuous doctor by profession. He was the youngest cabinet minister in the Manmohan Sigh cabinet of 2004. He is also the president of PMK Youth Wing and the leader of Pasumai Thayagam.
G.K. Mani
Mr. G.K. Mani is presently the president of Pattali Makkal Katchi party also member of legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu. He was elected from the constituency of Mettur in the year of 2006 and two times from constituency of Pennagaram in the years of 1996 and 2001.
