Puri, is a district in Odisha. This is a coastal district in Odisha which is famous for its temples, structures, etc. The district is located at 19°28'N latitude to 26°35'N latitude and 84°29'E longitude to 86°25'E longitude. It has a geographical area of 3051 Sq. Km. Puri district has a good supply of water from Mahanadi’s tributaries such as Kushabhadra river, Daya river, Bhargavi river, Kadua river, Prachi river, Devi river, etc.

The origin of the name is probably derived from Purushottama Kshetra. Eventually, the name Purushottama Kshetra got corrupted to Puri. During the British rule the name was spelt at Pooree.

Puri has a wealth of cultural heritage in the form temples, traditions, festivals, etc. The district is a mix of many religions and sects and faiths. A unique blend of Shaivism, Vaishanavism, Sakti Cult, Ganapatya, Mahabir, etc can be observed in Puri.

• Jagannath Temple: Jagannath temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Jagannath means the lord of the universe.
• Gundicha Temple: The temple has Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra as deities. The Yatra and festival during the month of Ashadh are very famous here.
• Loknath Temple: The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was constructed in the 11 century AD. It is said that Lord Ram had founded the Shivling here in this temple.
• Sun temple at Konark: This is perhaps one of the unique temples in India. The deity here is Sun God. The temple was constructed in the 13th century by Narasimha Deva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty.
