Andhra Prabha News Paper
It is a daily Telugu-language newspaper, which was launched in the year of 1938. This paper is a major part of The New Indian Express Group of Companies
This paper was launched from city of Chennai on date of August 15th, 1938 by a respectable personality, Ramnath Goenka for challenging the influence of the progressive Telugu newspaper at the time, Andhra Patrika. A reader hailing from Bellary had given the suggestion regarding the name of Andhra Prabha to the management of the paper which was at once adopted by them. The then management belonging to Andhra Prabha gave award to him with the sum of Rs. 116 as a token of their thankfulness. This paper was earlier edited by Khasa Subba Rao, joint editor of Indian Express at the time, who was later succeeded by Nyayapati Narayana Murthy. In the year of 1942, Narla Venkateswara Rao was deputed from the post of news-editor to the post of editor of the paper. He enjoyed this rank for seventeen years, a long period of time which is regarded as epochal in journalism of Telugu. He was held responsible for several revolutionary alterations in caption writing and headline, in the process of framing of action photos, in display of news and in the making up of page. It was during the editorship of Narla that this paper was shut down for a short period during the movement of Quit India. This daily was closed for a few months for protesting the attempt of British Government in order to impose censorship of the press. Andhra Prabha was also later banned from Mysore and Hyderabad due to its feudal nature of these regimes. Narla later submitted his resignation when he had a bit of row with Ramnath Goenka over his compassion with the workers in the press, resulting in a strike in the city of Chennai. He was later succeeded by Neelamraju Venkataseshaiah. Neelamraju Venkataseshaiah was succeeded by Panditharadhyula Nageswara Rao in the year of 1969. Nageswara Rao rendered his service to Andhra Prabha up to the year of 1976.
