Hal Aerospace Museum

HAL Aerospace Museum is a section of HAL Heritage Centre and Aero Space Museum installed in the year 2001 and it is situated in the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited campus. This museum’s main objective is to showcase the progress that the Indian aviation Industry has made over a period of 60 years in the country to make the public to feel proud of the growth of aeronautics in the country.

The museum is maintained by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, who are State owned airspace organisation.

History

Bengaluru being the place which has had facilities to repair and service aircrafts of the Allied Forces during World War II, the Government of India chose that place to establish the aircraft manufacturing unit Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at Bangalore after Independence, which is making good progress over the years.

HAL has developed and constructed aircrafts , particularly for the needs of Indian Airforce.

This  museum has been established to show case all the progress India has made in respect of Airspace product manufacturing and achievements of these products at times of need.

Collections

The museum organisers have endeavoured to securemany aircraft related objects for display, which include popular aircraft models and helicopters, besides Aircraft engine prototypes.

Exhibitions

The visitor will be excited to see the following which are exhibited in an amazing manner

1. The intermediate jet trainer prototype (IJT), HAL HJT-36 Sitara
2. The light weight multi-role fighter (LCA) called HAL Tejas mock up
3. The jet powered bomber English Electric Canberra
4. The light fighter aircraft and subsonic jet trainer HAL Ajeet
5. A model of Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) HAL Druv
6. Medium lift transport as well as utility Helicopter Westland Sea King Mik 42
7. Reusable aerial target system of high performance DRDO Lakshya

With all these, there is wonderful display of trainer aircrafts, such as the first one used as trainer HT-2, the one put to use by flying clubs at various places in India Pushpak, the basic trainer for IAF pilots for Jet aircrafts Kiran, those used for aerial spray jobs in agriculture such as Basant,etc.

The  simulators section is particularly impressive with real and entertaining scope with them, particularly enthusing those belonging to the younger group.

The museum also exhibits how Air Traffic Control operations are monitored from the Tower, besides exhibiting a number of visual on Indian aviation history.

How to Reach

HAL Aerospace Museum is closer to the old airport at Bangalore,  reachable if one takes Airpur-Varthur Road using by public transport, cars, taxis or auto rikshaws .

Bangalore has good air, rail and roadconnectivity , with

1.  Bangalore International Airport having flight schedules to all the important destinations of the world reaching Bangalore by air is very easy.
2. Bangalore  City Railway Station well connected with all the important destinations of the country making rail travel also easy.
3. Long distance buses running to Bangalore for all state head quarters of the neighbouring States, which include Mumbai, Pune, Goa, Chennai, Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Hyderabad .

Timings and Ticket Prices

The museum is open to public from 9 am to 5 pm on all days of the week, with the exception of Monday which is the weekly holiday. There is an entrance fee levied, while entry to students is offered at a concessional rate.
