Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum New Delhi
This Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum was inaugurated in 2005 and is one of the digital multimedia museums in India. This museum is situated at Gandhi Smriti that was previously famous as Birla House. This is the site where the assassination of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was done. These museum envelopes the life records of Mahatma Gandhi. This museum basically has the aim of reviving and redefining the values through which the freedom was obtained by India.
History
The initiation of this project was taken by the Gandhi Smriti Darshan Samiti and the Group of Aditya Birla. This museum was developed under the control of the laboratory of the sacred world research and was given support by the Hindalco and Grasim. The inauguration of this museum was done by the prime minister of India Manmohan Singh on 14th April of 2005. There is the provision of the mobile version of this museum that travels through out India in different states and abroad too.
Collections
This museum is being considered as the 1st multimedia digital museum of India. This museum presents various historical moments of the life of Mahatma Gandhi and also the thoughts that were taken by Gandhiji regarding the IT visions. By doing this the project leads to the revival of the values through which the Independence of India took place along with the documentation. This museum also redefines the values so as to animate the latest products as well as designs.
This technology do not only scans out the images of Gandhi but also falls light on the vision of Gandhi ji regarding the latest products and the design. This exhibition construes Gandhiji’s values and forms, Such as the promise of Gandhi ji regarding the production of hand based products and also the production by way of symbolic relationship along with nature. This thing can be interpreted by the modern culture context and conscious design.
A language of the actions of physical interface is being presented by this project. This is being originated from the traditional symbols of spinning wheel, prayer wheel turn, touching of the sacred objects by hands, collaboratively assembled quilts, sacred chanting sacredly in collective group, satsangas, rotation and touch of the prayer beads. All these interactions that are tradition based leads to the inspiration of prosperous panorama of concrete interfaces allowing the people accessing the Gandhiji’s multimedia imagery.
Exhibitions
There are the displays that have been originated from the symbols that are classical Indian, like spinning wheel, turning prayer wheels, prayer wheel turn, touching of the sacred objects by hands, collaboratively assembled quilts. It embroiders Gandhi’s life in rhythm along with the photographs, film footage, paintings and the video clips too. There is the collection of about 40 exhibits that is showing the junction of latest concrete computing the art that is new green along with the vision of Gandhi ji.
Ranjit Makkuni was the designer of all the exhibits who was the director of the team of about 200 artists, craftspeople, scientists and also took the help of many leading scholars as well as institutions through the world.
The ID Magazine New York award was given to this project for remarkable contributions of designs.
The contribution of the work that was done by the artists, scholars, sculptors, carpenters, electronic designers, craftsmen, digital artists and animators etc resembles to that of prayer remembering the visions of Gandhi. This is just as combined ‘Likita Japa’, that is the continuous memory of the celestial through replication of written mantra. All the objects in this exhibition like small piece of light, bit map over the screen, any animation, any circuit or any other object of handicraft is just like as living prayer.
