Sir Syed Mosque

Sir Syed masjid is situated in the heart of Aligarh Muslim university campus, in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. The mosque stands on the university cricket ground and gives striking view to the on lookers.

History

This mosque has old history as that of Aligarh Muslim University. Aligarh University is a public university and is founded by central government of India. It was designed for training of Muslims and gets them.

Sir Syed’s son has studied in Cambridge University and has given a proposal of having a university for Muslims. His idea was taken and after modified a little and the university came up where a masjid is also constructed. This university is first one to for residential education set up by government of India. Later here the university gave raise to people who are interested in British political system. There are many people who praised the university and also the mosque which is built up in the university campusprepared for advanced training in British universities.

This university came into light when Sir Syed Ahmad Khan felt that education foe Muslims is important to get them into government service in India. Jai kishan helped Syed khan in building the university for Muslims. In 1875 he built the university in Aligarh and designed it according to the oxford and Cambridge which he visited on a trip to England. Sir Syed khan objective is to build a university in tune with the British system without violating Islamic laws. He wanted to build it without compromising the Islamic values. This university was originally given the affiliation by university of Calcutta and later moved to Allahabad University. Later on it came into more light and a law school has also been constructed in Aligarh. After that college has been transferred to Muslim university and there is vice chancellor to serve this

The Sir Syed mosque is built up in the name of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan who felt that education is important for Muslims. So, the mosque has great history behind.

Architecture

Sir Syed mosque is located in the university campus of Aligarh Muslim University. It is situated against university cricket ground and poses a wonderful view to the visitors. It is there inside of sir syed hall. The tomb of the founder sir syed khan is present on the walls of the mosque. The design of this sir syed mosque looks like mughal badshani mosque in Lahore.

Significance

The mosque has its own significance as it is located inside the university campus. There will be many students who visit the mosque daily and also the visitors who come and visit it. As it is an ancient one it stands for the architecture and the history. The significance is doubled as it is located inside the campus where people offer prayers daily.

How to Reach There

By Air

To reach Aligarh by air the nearest international airport is Indira Gandhi airport which is in New Delhi which is about five hours drive from Delhi.

By Rail

Aligarh id on Calcutta- Delhi line and there are trains which connect this place to important cities. Aligarh is junction and is connected with many states in the country and there are also daily trains to this place from major cities like Delhi, Jaipur, and Lucknow etc

By Road

It has well connected roads with other cities like Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Uttaranchal, and Rajasthan. There are also bus terminals in the city and they are Gandhi park bus terminal and Masoodabad bus terminal. There are many ways to reach this place and there are roads to this place from major parts of Uttar Pradesh. One can reach here from Delhi, Luck now, and Chandigarh by road as there are well connected roads to this place.
