Jama Masjid Gulbarga
Jama Masjid is located in Karnataka start, Gulbarga city, India. This Masjid is considered as one of the architectural mosques in that form in South Asia. The design and the arches inside of Gulbarga Masjid will resemble the interior of Spanish Mosque which is in Hyderabad, India. These two present in Hyderabad and Gulbarga have similarity with Great Cathedra- Mosque of Cordoba of Spain. It is located with the ramparts of Gulbarga fort and is considered as one of the oldest mosques in South East Asia.
History
Jama Masjid in Gulbarga was constructed by Muhammad Shah in 1367 to commemorate Gulbarga as Bahmani Sultana capital and the dynasty of Bahmani was found by Ala- al Din Hassan Bahman Shah who is a servant of Bahmani’s at the court of Tughluq. These made them settle and established themselves when the Delhi sultana started losing his hold.
Architecture
Jama Masjid is built inside the fort of Gulbarga with huge domes inside. It was constructed by Spanish architect with doorways having arches as that of mosque in Spain. To the west side it has the largest dome and all the four corners of the mosque have middle sized domes. These are constructed wonderfully and they are beautiful to look around, with this tourists are attracted to this place. It doesn’t have a courtyard but has 63 small domes in lines in the central area. These are the reasons for considering this as the most attractive architectural place in the south East Asia.
Main entrance is to the north side and has bigger gate of arched shape than the one outside the hall. The walls that are present to outside are solid and allow light that generally filters from coming to the courtyard. The pillars in the west room of prayer are painted with white and not any kind of decoration is found. The pillars and the walls present here create a majestic atmosphere and are beautiful to look at. The entrances are narrow and it has various domes present in the mosque. The roof which contains around 63 domes is the major attraction for the mosque. The west side of the mosque is spacious and has a big dome in the center with 12 smaller domes surrounded by it. Interiors in the mosque are appealing and are used in many other buildings in these days. Architecture seen here is very beautiful which many tourists.
Significance
The things which are different in this mosque where you can’t find any where else are the domes and the architecture. Only two have this kind of design and architecture in a masjid and those are Spanish mosque in Hyderabad and this that is Jama Masjid in Gulbarga. The architecture here resembles that of a mosque in Spain and the architect of Spain constructed this masjid. This masjid attracts many people from all other the world for its architectural value and also many devotees. Muslims from all over the world come here to offer their respect. So, it became a tourist attraction as well as place of worship.
How to reach there
By Road
Gulbarga has very well connected roads from Bangalore and all other parts of the state. From there it is very easy to find out the masjid as it will be less kilometers to go.
By Train
Many trains have hauls here in Gulbarga. If you check the railway chart or related website you will know the concerned trains and timings of it. It has well connected train route.
By Air
You have to reach Bangalore first and from there you take bus or train at your convenience. It is around 8 hours from here. It is up to you which one to take.
