Gujarat Kevada Masjid Champaner
Kevada Mosque is a masjid in Champaner, Gujarat. This mosque comes under the Champaner Pavagadh Archaeological Park, which also happens to be a UNESCO approved World Heritage site. The mosque is well known for its glorious minarets, globe shaped domes and its many narrow stairs.
Nature is beautifully integrated with the intricate masjid architecture. This symbolic meet is not seen like this anywhere else.
Construction
The mosque was built under the rule of Mahmud Begada. Henry Cousens wrote descriptions of Kevada, roads were then constructed.
Architecture
The Kevada mosque comprises of three mehrabs. Its architecture is quite similar to that the masjid in Pavagadh. The huge arc on the gate with its minarets on each side makes this building a visual marvel. The intricate carvings spark Hindu as well as Islamic references. The mosque compound is fairly large with a giant cenotaph on the front side. The cenotaph is a four sided base with a giant dome in the middle with smaller domes on all 4 corners. The minarets have beautiful floral carvings and foliage motif on the exteriors.
