Shah Ibrahim Tomb
Shah Ibrahim Tomb is a great monument in the history of northern India and located in the Narnaul district of Haryana state of India. This tomb was constructed by the great Sher Shah Suri in 1545. The place where this tomb was constructed was the grave of grandfather of Sher Shah Suri. The construction of this tomb was started in 1538 and it took 7 years in completion. The tomb was a good example of mixed architecture style of Islamic and Persian. In this tomb, glass work created with the beautiful glasses imported from Belgium. This tomb is located at 9 kilometers from Narnaul bus stand and is accessible from all parts of the state as well as country.
Architecture
The tomb is an example of best architectural efforts in making various arches, minarets, ceilings with better carving, outlines of the building as sound exterior and various turrets. Arches called in Urdu as Mehrab, and all the Mehrabs are beautifully designed with fine stone of granite. All the arches have been provisioned with screens at end with a good painting on it. This tomb has been constructed on a huge and high platform more than 10 ft in height from ground level. Entrance of the tomb has been designed with a beautiful gate and arches made with fine granite on top. The width of gate is more than 7ft allowing movement of more persons at a time. This entrance has been made according to Hindu architecture. Color scheme of the painting and carvings has been done with the Hindu architecture as in the temples of south India. Entrance of the tomb is designed with fine marbles and double storied arches. Border of the arches is made with limestone and sandstone. The dome made over the tomb is designed in balancing position that is supported by four octagonal pillars or clamps made by marble. All the corners made in dome are provided with turrets. Mehrab shows the direction of Kabba and provide vital look to the building. The tiles used in the tomb are of red and grey color and the brush work on walls is amazing.
