History
The meaning of Rang ghar is an Amusement house.Ahom kings of Assam had constructed this important and famous amusement amphitheater. The Rang ghar building has two floors. Often The Royal familyused The Rang ghar building for the witness various games which was organized during the celebratons of RangauliBihu with the adjoining of RupahiPathar.The Royal family could examine the whole proceedingsofthebuffalo fight from the Rang gharHouse.Nowadays Buffalo fight is the famous Sports events.In 1746, the Ahom king SwargadeoPramattaSingha built The Rang Ghar. The Rang ghar is placed in Sibsagar town along the Assam trunk road.
Architecture
The architectural structure of Rang Ghar is one of the oldest structures of Assam. The structure has a great importance for historians as well as architects as it shows the architectural taste of that time. The structure has been built on lines of the royal boat Ahom. The shape of the roof of the Rang Ghar resembles the same. A pair of crocodiles made up of sculpted stones is found on the roof of the Rang Ghar. Series of entrances are built at the base of Rang Ghar. The Ahom people were not aware of mortar and cement in those days, hence it has been constructed with mixture of eggs and rice along with baked bricks. The inner surface of Rang Ghar has been lined using the powdered lime with bricks.
The Jaysagarpukhri or Jaysagar pond is situated one kilometer away from therangGhar. It is an artificial tank similar to the Sibsagarpukhri covering an area of around 120 bighas. RudraSingha who was the king at that time built Jayasagarpukhri in reminiscence of his mother Rani Joymati.

From Sivasagar or Sibsagar all the main cities of Assam are accessible. The bus services are available very easily from all the parts of the state to Sivasagar. KarengGhar&TalatalGharare historical monuments that once served as the military station of the Ahom kings. The structures were built during 1696 to 1714 by the famous king RudraSingha. The architectural magnificence of the structure attracts many tourists and researchers every year.
This is a seven-story structure. While the three floors that are under the ground are called the TalatalGhar, the rest of the floors above the ground levels are referred to as the KarengGhar. There are two secret tunnels in the TalatalGhar.
