Manora Fort
Manora fort was constructed by the Maratha ruler Serfoji II in 1814-15. This fort was constructed within the shortest period and took only two year in completion. To construct this fort, 2300 laborers were utilsed and the construction work done overnight till one and half year. This fort is 23 meters high and facing Bay of Bengal. In ancient time, some of the traders from Sri lanka used to come to Manora for their business activities. It is believed that Serfoji took the idea to safeguard the area from any unforeseen infiltration. Presently all the storeys of the fort have been closed and only 2 floors are open for viewing by general public. It is also said that inside the fort there was an underground way to reach the famous temple of Thanjavur district.
History
Manora fort is magnificent example of such a high construction with the plastering work of lime and mortar. The building is still standing with same dignity. This fort was constructed by Serfoji in memory of British victory over Napoleon. This hexagonal shape fort has a minaret also. The architectural look of this fort shows the mixed constructional styles of European, Islamic, and Dravidian architecture.
The Tsunami of 2004 made a big damage to the fort including other four monuments in the vicinity. During the year 2007, state tourism Development Corporation planned to provide some more amenities in this fort area to enhance tourism. A tourist shed and Children Park is also in planning and under execution as on date.

Manora is located in plain area and hence all the means of transportation can be used to access this fort.
By Air
Tiruchirapalli is the nearest airport to reach this fort. Different airlines operate their flight on routine basis to this airport.
By Rail
Thanjavur is the nearest railway station. Other major cities like Madurai, Chennai and Tiruchirapalli are well connected with this station.
By Road
From Thanjavur, various road transport services are available. This fort is just located at 65 kilometers from this main Thanjavur city. Taxies and tourist cabs are also available at affordable charges.

Sangeetha Mahal
Sangeetha Mahal is located in the close vicinity of Thanjavur palace. This Mahal was constructed during the 17thg century by King Sevappa Nayak. Presently this building is being used as exhibition hall for the locally made crafts items.
Bhadreshwara Temple
This temple is an example of success and progress of Chola dynasty. They made this temple quickly in Tamil style of architecture. Main deity of this temple is Lord Shiva. This temple is listed in world’s heritage building.
Schwartz Church
This church was built by King Serfoji in 1779. It was a tribute to Reverend Frederick Christian Schwartz. This construction shows the communal harmony of those days. A king of Hindu religion constructed a Church; it was an example of social and communal harmony of ancient India. This monument is made by special white marble like Victoria Memorial of Kolkata.
