The tomb of Ibrahim Lodhi is located in Panipat close to the taluk office. He was defeated by the Mughal emperor, Babur in the year 1526 in the first battle of Panipat.

The grave has a rectangular block having a high platform and can be reached through the steps made up of lakhori bricks. The British renovated the tomb and also marked an inscription upon it describing defeat of Ibrahim Lodhi over Babur.

Lodi was one of the kings of the Lodi dynasty who had become the last ruler of the Delhi Sultanate in the country. He was basically an Afghan who ruled over most of the northern parts of India from 1517-1526, and he got his defeat by the army of Babur.

History

The tomb of Ibrahim Lodhi is located close to a Tehsil Office at Panipat. He fought bravely with his uncle Babur, during the battle of 1526 commonly called as the First Battle of Panipat and killed and buried there itself.The tomb got its renovation done by the British, and there is an inscription which describes Ibrahim Lodhi's defeat over Babur and this renovation took place in 1866.

Architecture

Ibrahim Lodhi's tomb catches the fancy of a large number of tourists who are entirely overwhelmed at the beautiful sight of mausoleum having bearing testimony to the cruel historic battle which changed the fate of India. The tomb consists of the grave of "Ibrahim Lodhi" and exhibits enriched architectural style of Pathans of those times. The tomb having fabulously engraved arches, which had been exquisitely designed in pillars has a great mix of fascinating colors having an amazing architectural creation displaying the great skills of engineering of the past golden era.

During the times of British, the grave of "Ibrahim Lodhi" got renovated for the purpose of reviving the past glory as well as grandeur of the historic place. The beautiful structure is formed of colorful stones of white, deep red and grey colors adding to the beauty of the mausoleum.

By Rail

There are various trains from Kurukshetra which reach Kalka or Delhi via Panipat.

By Road

Panipat is located on the Ambala-Kurukshetra-Delhi road, on the NH-1. It is at a distance of 87 kms from Delhi and has a well connected bus service to Ambala, Delhi and Kurukshetra.

Kabuli Shah Mosque

At a distance of 2 kms from Panipat, there is a mosque constructed by the Emperor Babur after his victory over Ibrahim Lodhi. He named this mosque after name of his wife, Kabuli Begum. The mosque has chambers on both the sides. There is also an inscription in language of Persian that runs across the parapet.

Dargah Of Bu Ali Shah Qalandar

It is a shrine in dedication of a Muslim saint, Bu Ali Shah Qalandar. Bu Ali is believed to have rid the place from flies, but when there were complaints of people, the flies were brought back multiplying by a thousand.

Fort

The fort reaches highest point of Panipat and defends it from invaders.

Weather and Best Time to Visit

Panipat has three seasons in the year, namely monsson, summer and winter. This place has a tropical climate, and summer season is very hot here whereas winters are very cold. The best time to visit Panipat is winters because of the pleasant weather.

Temperatures can reach highest of forty five degrees (45°C) while lowest of thirty five degrees (35°C) during summers. The months of summer are March, April and May.

There is moderate rainfall found in Panipat because of the influence of the South West monsoon. The rain is usually mild during July and August and continues till September. There is a fall in temperatures during this time.

The best time to visit Panipat is during months of November, December and January.
