Sikkim Sanga Choeling Monastery
Sanga Choeling Monastery also known as SangeChoeling Monastery is situated in a small village of Peling in the district of Sikkim. The accurate meaning of Sanga means the island of obscure teaching.Sanga Choeling Monastery is the first ever monastery constructed in north eastern part of Sikkim. The Buddhist hermitage is situated just above Peling and is situated in the distance of seven kilometres from Pemayangtse Monastery. One can reach SangeChoeling Monastery by walking by the vertical mountainous trek of approx four kilometres the trek is surrounded by dense forest.
Most of the Buddhist devotee starts their Journey to Sanga Choeling Monastery as a fragment to sacred and tour and also tradition encircling various other Monastery.
History
Sanga Choeling Monastery was recognised in 17th century by the Lama or teacher Lhatsun Chempo.
Architecture
The monastery was constructed in 1697. Sanga Choeling Monastery is well-known as home of secret curses. Monastery was re-constructed after affecting by fire several times. The monastery is situated at a very beautiful location which provides picturesque and breath taking view.
Festival
As per the Tibetans calendar on the 10th day of the month Lamas narrate chants at the Sanga Choeling Monastery. The monastery is held in reserve for males. Special prayers are held in morning and evening.
How to Reach
By Air
Bagdogra is the nearest airport situated near Gangtok. It is approx. 124 Kilometres from Gangtok. Due to high mountain region Sikkim doesn’t have any airport so far. There is a helicopter service available on request which takes around 30 minutes to reach and can carry four passengers at one time.
By Rail
Sikkim doesn’t have any railway facilities. The nearest railway terminal to Sikkim is New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri.
By Road
National highways are well connected to Gangtok and Siliguri. NH no 31 and NH no 31A are the road which connects Siliguri to Gangtok. Their local transport known as SNT – Sikkim National Transport provides the bus service in Sikkim. One can avail private buses and taxis in Sikkim. One can also reach Sikkim via Tibet.
