Wardha defines itself as a municipal council situated in the Maharashtra state of India. It is the administrative headquarters of Wardha district. It devises its name from the Wardha River which flows at the North, South and West boundaries of the district. Wardha was founded in 1866 and is an important center of cotton trade.

Wardha is a sister city of Sevagram and both these cities were used as the major centers for the Independence Movements for Annual meetings of Indian National Congress in 1934. Wardha also boasts itself as the hometown of Vinobha Bhave one of the most prominent personalities ever known in the history of India.

Wardha also serves as a central hub of education having lots of education institutions along with “Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS)” and ‘Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya’, which is the only one central university of the west zone providing the large spectrum of disciplines for the broader thinking of students. Wardha has a total area of 6310 sqkms along with a total population of 1,236,736 people.
