Buldhana district is located on the western border of the region of Vidarbha in the state of Maharashtra. It is about five hundred kilometers away from Mumbai, the capital of the state.

The area covered by the Buldhana district is nine thousand six hundred and forty square kilometers. The administrative division of the district is located in the Amravati division. in the year 1853, the district along with Berar came under the British rule and under the administration of East India Company. Berar was broken up into West and East Berar. The district of Buldhana was in the Western portion of Berar. In the year 1903, the Nizam of Hyderabad leased Berar to the British Government. Sorghum, cotton and cereals like groundnuts, sunflower, soybean and oil seeds are the crops which grow in the Buldhana district predominantly. Malkapur and Khamgaon are the main centers for trading cotton in the district.
