West Bengal Jore Pokhri
When you travel from Mirik to Darjeeling, you will come across a town which has lots of untouched natural beauty. This town is known as Jorpokhri. This sleepy little town is located some 16 kilometers from Darjeeling and 85 kilometers from Siliguri. It is a famous sightseeing town near Darjeeling. With many lakes in this area is one of the reasons as to why the place is known as Jorpokhri. The town is famous because of its lakes which are the main attraction in this place and the view of Kanchenjunga through the pine forest in clear weather is awesome. The meaning of Jorpokhri is that Jod means a pair and Pokhri means a lake. The town is near the Indo-Nepal border hence while in Jorpokhri the tourists can go for a day’s sight seeing tour in the Nepal's Pasupati market nearby.
History
As it is said the history of any place lies in the place and its surroundings and it is history which makes a place popular. This is equally true for this lake also which is a historical site.
Jorpokhri is a tiny place on a hilltop and located in Darjeeling district. From the city of Darjeeling, it is about 19 kilometers. You can access it from the road to Mirik.
Jorpokhri is situated at an altitude of 7,400 feet. The main attraction of this small town is its twin lakes after which the place has been named. 'Jor' means two and 'pokhri' stands for a lake or water tank. You will find ample seating arrangements as the boundary of the lake has many seating arrangements so that the visitors can enjoy the scenic beauty of the lake. You can also see a big model of a snake and a fountain in the middle of the tank.

Jorpokhri Lake
When you visit this lake, you will be able to spot many white swans swimming in the waters or strolling around in the nearby area. This town is not just for the lakes. Rather it has many beautiful forests full of dhupi and pines. You can undertake a lazy stroll in the forest area and feel the lovely Himalayan serenity. The town is part of Senchal forest and is a nature reserve.
A beautiful view which you can enjoy is that of the Himalayan snow peaks and the Darjeeling landscape. If you visit the place on a clear day from one side of the lake you can get a breathtaking view of the majestic Kanchenjunga peaks and from the other side you can see Darjeeling and Kurseong town landscapes. The best season to visit would be between October to March.

When you are in Jorpokhri you can easily go for a short trip to Darjeeling and while in Darjeeling do take some time to enjoy an awesome and scenic ride in The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is also famously known as the Toy Train which runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling in West Bengal as a narrow gauge train.
Sunderbans
The name Sunderban is synonymous with the many Sundari trees that provide them their name. These trees hold in place the many small islands of mud, on which they thrive along with their roots.
They are the World's largest delta and estuarine and which has all sorts of mangrove forests and many saline mud flats which is located on the lower side of Gangetic West Bengal.
How to Reach Jorpokhri
In order to enjoy the beauty of a place you must also be able to reach it easily and conveniently. This is also equally true with this Lake which has all modes of transport available.
The town of Jorpokhri is about 19 kilometers from Darjeeling town. From the Ghoom you can take the road to Sukhiapokhri that will take you all the way to Mirik. You will need to hire a car from the Darjeeling taxi stand which will take you to the spot in over 1 hour by road. If you are coming from Mirik it will take you about 1 hour drive to reach Jorpokhri via the Pashupati Nath Market on the India Nepal border.
