Rajasthan Lake Foy Sagar
Lake Foy Sagar is a manmade lake in the city of Ajmer that is situated in Rajasthan a western state of India. Lake Foy Sagar gets its name from the man who built it. Mr. Foy was a British engineer and for the benefit of the people of Ajmer, who struggled immeasurably for water, especially during famines built the lake. The lake was built in 1892 under a famine aid project under the British Raj. There is an inscription near the lake where all of its details are given. Even after around 120 years the inscription seems to be in a good condition and is readable. This same inscription shows that the name of the city was Ajmere back then. Ajmer has numerous small as well as large and majorly important tourist spots for instance the dargah sharif of Moinuddin Chisti a renowned saint. Lake Foy Sagar is one among the best and most popular tourist sites of the region. Those who are not aware of this lake being manmade find it hard to believe when told so. It has tremendous natural exquisiteness despite being manmade. Capacity of Lake Foy Sagar is 15 million cubic feet. Today Lake Foy Sagar is a well known picnic spot which is popular not only among tourists but also among local dwellers of Ajmer.
