Rajasthan Kaylana Lake
Kalyana Lake is situated in the Jodhpur District, just 8 kilometers west of Jodhpur city in the state of Rajasthan in India. This is an artificial lake built by Prathap Singh in 1872. It receives water from Elephant Canal which further connects with Indira Gandhi Canal. It provides drinking water to Jodhpur City and the surrounding villages.
History
Not much to say as the history of this lake. This has been constructed by Prathap Singh in 1872 to solve the drinking water problems of the citizens. Later, it has been modified several times.
Attractions
As in the case of any other lakes, boating is the main attraction here too. The scenery on the sides of the lake will certainly attract the visitors. There is a good scope for nature photography too here. There are several other places near this lake which you can club with your visit to Kalyana Lake. Ummed Bandh is a place where you can enjoy long walk. The Bandh constructed in 1933 is still attracts many visitors. Mehrangarh Fort is another place which is very close to Kalyana Lake. One of the largest forts in India is located about 400 feet above the city. This historic structure which has several stories of battles to tell attracts history lovers. Tourists who are interested in sight seeing will also get a feast here. Calm and quite atmosphere here helps recreation.
How to Reach
Jodhpur is well connected with Jaipur and other cities in Rajasthan by road and rail. There is a domestic airport from where there are some domestic flights to Jaipur, Udaipur and New Delhi. Once you reach Jodhpur, it is quite easy to reach Kalyana Lake using public buses, Taxis or Rickshaws.
