Karnataka Ulsoor Lake

This lake is situated almost at the center of the city and is a part of Halasuru, one of the oldest neighborhoods of the city. This area is most famous because of the huge number of temples and for the narrow and dingy streets.

Along with these very romantic and special gateways, there is a separate children’s park. History
According to the history, Kempe Gowda, the founder of the moden Bengaluru city has also built this lake. There is a story or a fable surrounding this lake. The story goes like this, when Kempe Gowda becam very tired aftte coming from Yelahankar, he sat under a tree to take some rest. After some time he fell asleep. In his sleep, he dreamt about God Somesvara. The God came to his dream and told him about the presence of a hidden treasure in the spot. Kempe Gowda dug up the treasure and the lake has been built in the process.
In other versions of the story, this lake has been built by Kempe Gowda II after he succeeded his father Kempe Gowda who got the Halasuru village as a gift from the kings of Vijayanagar. It is also said that, this is the only surviving tank built by the Gowda kings. In 1807, the very first British military station was set up in the village, near the tank. Though, the water body is known as a lake these days, in reality, it is nothing but a big water tank. The area derived its name from the Kannada name of the jackfruit Halasina Hannu. Then it got anglisized by the British as Ulsoor.
Attraction
Though the water of the lake has lost its old quality and purity and is polluted these days, the lake has not lost its appeal. The main attraction is still the lake and the small islands near the lake. Apart from that, the parks are attracting a lot of people these days. These places are functioning as special and simple weekend gateways. People are visiting the place in huge numbers. There is also a children’s park where the children and their family can also have a lot of fun. Apart from these attractions, there are various water sports in the park, boating and simple boat cruise facilities are available.

Yes, you can get to the city by road with your own car or a rented one. After reaching the city, getting to the lake is not at all tough.
