Jammu & Kashmir Mansar Lake
Mansar Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes located at a distance of 62 kilometers from Jammu and Kashmir. The lake is surrounded by hills from all sides which enhances the view of the Mansar Lake. Apart from being a place of natural beauty, it is also considered as a holy site. History
Mansar Lake holds a historical background. The history dates back during the time of Mahabharata when Babar Vahan was the ruler. Arjun performed "Ashwamegh Yagya" in which the horse is made to run to show your superiority. During this Yagya, Vahan captured the village Ramkot and defeated Arjun and became the owner. When Vahan presented the head of Arjun before his mother, she told him that he had killed his father. So to bring him alive, the mani was needed from sheshnag. It was at this time that a surang was created and he brought the mani Manisar. Thus the lake was called as Mansar Lake and is a holy site for the devotees.
