Palakkad is one of the most beautiful districts of the state of Kerala. The main city is located at a distance of 350 kms from the State capital Thiruvananthapuram. It is also known as ‘Gateway of Kerala’ as it connects Kerala to different states. Palakkad is rich in greenery and its habitat of different species of birds and animals. Palm trees and paddy is grown in plenty in this region.

Palakkad is known for its mesmerizing landscape and greenery because of the palm tree plantations and paddy fields. Palakkad has dense abundant forests, wild-life sanctuaries, rivers, rare birds, dams, many historical monuments and ayurvedic treatment centres. The Silent Valley National Park situated in the Nilgiris is a treat for the eyes. This district is well connected with rail, road and airport.

Like other districts of Kerala, Palakkad has a high literacy rate of 81%. People mostly speak the native language, Malayalam but however, Hindi, Tamil and English are also widely spoken.

Places to Visit

Malampuzha Dam: This dam is built on the river Bharatha-puzha at Western Ghats hills footsteps. There is children’s amusement park, a garden and boating around the hills and dam.

Palakkad Fort: This Fort was built by Haider Ali of Mysore in the year 1766. It has a jail and Hanuman (monkey god) temple inside the fort.
