Kodagu district is a southern district in Karnataka which borders Kannur and Wayand districts from neighboring state of Kerala. The area of the district is 4102 sq. km. The earlier name of the district under the British rule was Coorg.

The region was ruled by many dynasties such as kadambas, Gangas, Cholas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar Rayas over the centuries. The region is situated on the eastern slopes of the Western Ghats and naturally the place is a hilly region with the highest peak, Tadianadamol in the region stands at 1750 meters above sea level. These mountains are home to the Cauvery river at Talakaveri.

Agriculture is a major occupation in the district. The chief produces in the state include coffee plantations, ginger plantations, black pepper, cardamom, vanilla, honey, etc. Other minor agro-forest produces include teak, rubber and cocoa.

Kodagu district has three wildlife sanctuaries and one national park. These are Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary, Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary, Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary and Nagarahole or Rajiv Gandhi National Park.

Kodagu district houses tourist attractions such as.

• Talakaveri: This the place where river Cauvery originates. There is a temple for Brahma which is one of the only two temples dedicated to Lord Brahma in India.
• Iruppu Falls: This water falls is located in South Kodagu in Brahmagiri hill range where Lakshmana Tirtha river can be seen.
• Abbey Falls: This waterfalls is located near Madikeri. The flowing Cauvery river can be seen in its full force raging through the hills of the Western Ghats here.
