Haveri, is a district situated in the central region of Karnataka. Earlier, Haveri district along with Gadag were part of Dharwad district. Dharwad district was divided into three pieces to form Haveri, Gadag districts separately in the year 1997. Today, the district is surrounded by Gadag, Dharwad, Bellary, Devangere, Shimoga, and Uttara Kannada districts.

The district has archeological evidence of pre-historic civilizations existed along the banks of Tungabhadra and Varada rivers. Many stone writings from Chalukyas and Rashtrakutas are also found in this place suggesting that the region was once under their rule.

Agriculture is the major occupation of the district. The majority of the crops include jowar, cotton, rice, chillies, groundnut, sunflowers, sugarcane and other oil seeds.

• Siddheshwara Temple: This temple was built in the 13 century. A beautifully sculpted temple from the inside and outside, it is considered as an example of the South Indian style temple architecture.
• Chaudadanapura: A small village in the district, it is home to the famous Mukteshwara Temple. The temple is dedicated to Udbhava Linga of Lord Shiva. The temple was built in 11th century and is considered as an excellence of architecture of that period.
• Galaganatha: Galageshwara Temple at Galaganatha, is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Shiv Linga found here is Sparsha Linga. The temple was built in the 11th century.
• Madagh Masur Lake: This lake was built in the 15th century by the Vijayanagar kings. The lake is a major source of irrigation and water supply. The water falls near the lake is a beautiful sight to watch.
