Pakur district, one of the 24 districts in the state of Jharkhand, was recognized as an independent district in the year 1994. Pakur district was a subdivision of Santhal Parganas.

As per the census conducted in the year 2011, Pakur district had a total population of 899,200 of which male and female were 453,101 and 446,099 respectively. There was 28.15 percent change in the population compared to population in the year 2001.

The Pakur district area spans 686.21 square kilometer and Pakur is the administrative headquarters of the district. Pakur has latitudes between 23.4 and 25.18 N and longitudes between 86.25 and 87.57 E.

The economy of the district is dependent mainly on agriculture. Paddy, wheat, gram, mustard, potato, onion, jute, sugarcane are grown here. The district is also rich in mineral resources like coal, silica, china clay etc. Crushing and screening equipments are manufactured in the districts as mining and crushing are also the main businesses in the district. The district has large number of mines and crushers.

Pakur district attracts tourists from all over India for its various places. Tourism is also one of the contributors to the economy of the district.
