Sriharikota Island

Sriharikota Island is actually a fabulous barrier island situated in the state of Andhra Pradesh close to Bay of Bengal. The island houses the famous Satish Dhawan Space Center which is used for launching rockets, satellites and missiles into the space. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) launched satellites utilizing multistage rockets like the Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle and Polar Satellite Vehicle from this island.

Events / Festivals in Sriharikota Island

You will be able to watch the spectacular rocket launch or a satellite launch from outside the premises of Satish Dhawan Space Center. It is better to stop your vehicle before the entrance of the space station in order to explore the fabulous view of a rocket or satellite launch. Alighting from your vehicle half a kilometer prior to the space station will enable you to see the rocket launch more clearly.

Places to Visit in Sriharikota Island

Once you are allowed to enter the premises of Satish Dhawan Space Center, you will be able to explore all the launch pads and launch vehicles very closely. However, it must be noted that security both inside and outside the space station is very tight, hence you need the permission in order to enter the space station.

Pulicat Lake, which is located close to the space station, can be explored by the travelers for different species of migratory birds, boating and magnificent backwaters.

You can buy rocket models and posters according to your liking. At the same time, you can explore delicious seafood from the local fishermen. You can buy soft drinks, water and biscuits from a canteen outside the space center. It is better to carry your own food and water from Sullurpreta to Sriharikota Island as the canteen is occasionally closed.

Travelers can also explore Ap Camping Ground. The camp offers satellite launching time tours along with fabulous Fleming birds watching.
