Bhavani Island

The fabulous Bhavani Island is located in the middle of River Krishna at Vijayawada in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The island is situated at upstream of Barrage Prakasam and is measured as one of biggest river islands. The Bhavani Island encloses an area of 132 acres. It must be noted that Kanaka Durga sanctuary is the dwelling of Goddess Durga. The temple is also called Bhavani and thus, the island is christened Bhavani Island. The temple is situated close to the island and devotees from all over the state and country visit the temple. Andhra Pradesh tourism officials took the initiative and developed the island into an attractive tourist destination.  These destinations comprise Shilparamam, which is a lovely arts and crafts township. The village provides assistance to local weavers, artisans such as Kondapalli toymakers. Moreover, the tourism officials have developed the overall infrastructure on the island to draw several tourists and holiday makers. The travelers and merrymakers can easily engage in outdoor activities such as canoeing, swimming, rope way, etc which attract tourists.

Kondaveedu: Kondaveedu was built with twenty-one structures by Reddy’s in 14th century. It is situated at 70 kilometers from Bhavani-Island. The destination is popular for its natural attractiveness and is an ideal place for trekking. Gopinatha and Kathulabave temples are the other places to visit at this place.

Krishna Barrage: Krishna Barrage is situated 6 kms away from the Bhavani Island. The barrage is located on Krishna River bank connecting Bhavani Island and Krishna district.       Mangalagiri: Mangalagiri is a sacred destination for devotees, which is famous for housing Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. It is situated 16 Kms away from from Bhavani-Island.

Summer season in Bhavani Island: Summer is dry and hot in Bhavani Island and generally lasts between the months of April to August. The temperature ranges between 30°C - 40°C in these months.
