Baratang Island
Gateway to the Middle and North Andaman Island, Baratang Island is an unexplored and unsoiled island which is yet to be discovered by the tourists. This island is best described as natural wonder and for its virgin beauty. If here, you would find Parrot Island, limestone caves, tropical forest, mangrove forest and mud volcano. Some other offsite attractions of the island include Lalaji Bay beach, Merk Bay Beach etc.
Ferry
Baratang is a beautiful island where less number of ferries are accessible, though they run on regular basis. To reach Baratang Island on ferry, you need to reach Port Blair. Ferry departs from this destination and takes two hours and 30 minutes. There are speed boats and regular ferries which depart from Port Blair. Depending on the fair and your pocket, you can pick any ferry.
Accommodation
Baratang is an unexplored island which doesn’t support any sort of accommodation facility. However there is one resort which lies at the border of this island and Middle Andaman Island. This resort is Dew Dale Resort. This resort is 6 kilometres away from the interior of the island and has non AC and AC rooms. The setting of this island is rural while the resort is somewhat isolated.
The resort is far away from the maddening crowd and hustle bustle of other cities of India. The resort has double bed and single bedded rooms while other amenities are also provided at reasonable rates.
Events / Festivals in Baratang Island
As the island is not populated and remains inhabited, there are no festivals and fairs which are held in this island. However tourists visit Middle and Northern Andaman Islands to witness the festivals held there. There are different festivals like Tourism Day, Music and Monsoon Festival, Film Festival, Beach Festival and Island Tourism Day. All of these festivals feature music, dance, entertainment, delicious food, different stalls that sell handicrafts, antique jewellery etc.
Some of the Indian festivals celebrated around the island are Diwali, Holi, Christmas and Durga Puja etc.

Baratang Island is one of the perfect destinations for all nature lovers. The place offers magnificent natural sights along with wide spectrum of wildlife scenery. Some of the people get around places such as:
- Lime stone caves which are simply impressive. These are glamorous rock formations, stalagmites and stalactites etc.
- Parrot Island is beautiful and fine attraction which is worth being visited. If you love bird watching, then visit this island to spot colourful parrots that set perfect background when the sun sets.
- Mud Volcano, undiscovered yet attractive. It has small bubbling mud pond and perfect destination for the nature lovers.
- Baludera beach, unsoiled, tranquil and pristine beach which is least crowded. Enjoy swimming by yourself or splash in low tide and rejuvenate your senses.
Climate of Baratang Island
The climate here is moderate tropical. The summers last from April to October while the winters start from November and last till March. The monsoon here is unpredictable and irregular. In summers, the days are hot and humid while the sea breeze makes the evening and night very cool and pleasant.

If you are planning to visit this island, then plan your trip during the winter season as the weather is very pleasant for you and your group to hang out and enjoy the picturesque beauty of the place. It is during the months of November, December, January, February and March.
How to Reach Baratang Island
To reach Baratnaga Island, one can take flight for Veer Savarkar Airport which is based in Port Blair. From Port Blair, you can take private bus or vehicle. It is to be noted that two vehicles are not permitted. Ferries are also available from some locations, so you can reach Baratang Island using ferry too.
